1.Question: Is CMTI a Profit Making Organization?

Answer: No., Profit making in the commercial sense, is not the main motive. CMTI is an R&D organization. It aims at generating revenue - through its various services to the industry - to cover its operating expenses and take care of consumables, bought-outs, etc. for fulfilling contractual obligations . CMTI has been able to generate revenue to the tune of 70% of the total  operating expenses in the recent past. The rest is subsidized by the Ministry of Industry. The subsidy is likely to taper off in the coming years as the support from the industries and other valued customers is expected to improve.

2.Question: Is CMTI mainly a calibration institute?                                                              Top

Answer: Calibration is only one of the services rendered by CMTI to the manufacturing industry. Its laboratories like Fluid power, Chemical Analysis laboratory, Metrology laboratory, Metallurgical Testing and Research Laboratory and Noise and Vibration laboratory have some calibration facilities with tractability. The metrology and Chemical Testing laboratories have been accredited to NABL (National Accreditation Board for Laboratories). Other laboratories are also going in for certification. However, the laboratories are equipped with infrastructure and manned by trained man power to take up 'investigative' tasks of industrial problems and also design and development of special test rigs and protocols.

3.Question: What are the latest projects running at CMTI?

Answer: Efforts are on to develop  ultra precision engineering capability in the nanometer range. Also forays are being made into Advanced Manufacturing (CIM), Robotics, Development of computer Numerical Control, Rapid Product Development technology with an integrated approach using, rapid prototype tooling machinery along with digitizing equipment, CAD and CAM, etc.

Rapid Product Development Center is being set up to realize products on a fast footing.                 Top
